Tonight was AMAZING!!!

THE 2nd Reception for the 3rd Annual Artist Of Color was a huge success. The artist that were present got an opportunity to speak briefly and that added a beautiful dynamic to the entire presentation. I hope to find clips along the way as I'm on social media so that i am reminded of this power this opportunity brought with it.

The exhibition will be in place through the end of February, so if you are anywhere nearby, PLEASE take some time to go enjoy the art!

The Arts & Heritage Center of North Augusta is set to present their 3rd annual, "Artist of Color," exhibition, curated by Augusta native, Adeana Berry - IG: @adeahnuh, from January 18 - February 29, 2024. Located at 100 Georgia Ave. North Augusta, South Carolina 29841, the exhibition is free of charge and open to the public Monday - Friday from 10:00a.m. - 4:00p.m. To kick things off, there will be an Opening Reception on January 18, from 5:00 - 8:00p.m., and then a Second Reception on February 16 from 5:00 - 8:00p.m., both also being free and open to the public.
The exhibition boasts several local artists who will be presenting works that celebrate their incredible talents and perspectives of the beauty in the world that we live in. One such artist, Thou Art Ju D - IG: @Thou_Art_Ju_D, said, "I am very excited to debut these pieces as a full mini collection which I have titled, The People In My Neighborhood. I've been in Augusta for just over a year now, and more and more, I realize that the true neighborhood of people I keep are not just those who live in homes next to mine, but it's also composed of individuals that I hold dear in heart or contemplation, you know? I reserve the creative right to define and design my own neighborhood."
Visual Artist and Author Thou Art Ju D
A California native having struck out across the country last year, the self-taught artist has landed for a stint in Augusta, GA, armed with acrylic paints and imagination.
Judi's interest have always been artistic, as she has previously been involved in activities and careers ranging from cosmetology to fashion design, styling and editorials. This current shift of interest, seems to come as the natural progression of someone who believes in the beauty of all things being their most important aspect.

21 Days To God Promo 1

August 25, 2023

August 12, 2023
When I think of summer, I think of summer vacations, beaches, road trips, seeing new states, hitting all the landmarks, going to all the quirky spots, and simply getting out on the road to seeing America!
As a child growing up in California, the best Summers were those when we set out across country to visit our grandparents in Virginia.
As I got to work on my paintings for American Summer, I was transported back to the summer days on the open road with my family. My sisters and I would get so excited when we'd pass the different little shops along the way, because we knew we'd be able to buy little goodies and trinkets with the vacation money our parent's had given us.
My go-to was always something way too expensive and then I'd end up finding my way to the postcards. You could usually get at least four for a dollar. What a bargain! I never had anyone in mind to send them to, but the pictures were beautiful and in my mind I could imagine having friends in far away places to send fun letters to that described my trip.
Once we were back home, I loved to sit and look through my postcards that I had collected, remembering every stop that we made.
Postcards make the most beautiful little reminders!
In light of the recent tragedies we are currently seeing, I thought it would be very fitting to expand on the creation of Fun In Paradise.
My process, actually for all of my Have A Nice Trip collection, was to create the fluid background and then allow it to tell me what American destination it represented.
From the moment I first saw the dry foundation of what came to be Fun In Paradise, I knew that it would be a piece to represent the beautiful experience of the ocean. I then tried to see it as Redondo Beach or Long Beach, both of which I frequented as a California native, yet, no matter how hard I tried I couldn't feel it as a reality.
So I stepped back from the piece for awhile, and the next time I approached it, I could see it clearly... this was Hawaii.
I am stunned at how relevant this piece suddenly became! Although it doesn't actually depict specific locations or scenes of the island of Maui, Fun In Paradise was created with all of the location's natural beauty in mind. Now, Fun In Paradise has become one of the last creations from the mindset of what we knew Maui to be up until August 8, 2023.
I extend my deepest heartfelt condolences to all of those who have been affected by the tragic fires in Maui.

Being an artist is very fulfilling! I discovered the @roco137 6×6 Project a few days ago and I'm very pleased to say that I was able to get a submission together in time to mail out in support of their efforts to keep art accessible... not quite how they've worded their mission, but it's literally one of the things they do ☺️ and this 6×6 Project is proof! πŸ’œ

1. Irie Iguana - him wan jam, him wan dance.
2. Panther Pon de Prowl - the Vines of the jungle hide him, but find the intensity in his exposed eye and sprawled whiskers to arrive beyond the window to his soul.
3. 8 Locks Under The Sea - 8 tentacles fling and give strength, as he moves with a royal grace that commands respect.
4. Coqui Calypso - as the steel drum is to calypso, so is the "ko-kee" of the Coqui. Both can make a heart dance.

I'm super excited to finally be presenting, "Sour Grapes," this evening at the Julian Smith Casino.
A symbol of new beginnings, "Sour Grapes," celebrates all things "8."
Composed of acrylic paint and embellished with glass and semi-precious beads, this piece blends canvas art with sculpture evoking wonder similar to that of deep sea travel. Time to indulge πŸ™
